In March 2019, three countries in southeast Africa, mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, were hit by tropical cyclone idai. Severe floods, landslides and river breaches caused by storms and heavy rainfall caused heavy casualties and property losses.

Upon approval, the ministry of emergency management dispatched 65 members of the Chinese rescue team to the disaster area with 20 tons of rescue equipment and supplies for search and rescue, communications and medical treatment.The Chinese rescue team was the first international rescue team to reach the disaster area.

In October this year, the Chinese rescue team and the international rescue team of China passed the assessment and retest of the international heavy rescue team of the United Nations, making China the first country in Asia to have two international heavy rescue teams.

The China international rescue team, which participated in the evaluation together with the Chinese rescue team, was established in 2001. In the 2015 Nepal earthquake, it was the first un-certified international heavy rescue team to reach the disaster area in Nepal, and the first international rescue team to rescue survivors, with a total of 2 survivors rescued.
