It is reported that during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, China has afforested 545 million mu, cultivated 637 million mu, constructed 48.05 million mu of national reserve forest, increased the forest coverage rate to 23.04%, and the forest stock exceeded 17.5 billion cubic meters, maintaining “double growth” for 30 consecutive years, making China the country with the largest increase in forest resources.We launched a special campaign to protect and restore mangroves, and increased the area of wetlands by more than 3 million mu, and protected more than 50 percent of the wetlands.Desertification and stony desertification have been brought under control over a total of 180 million mu of land, and the area of protected areas closed to desertification has been expanded to 26.6 million mu. Desertification has continued to reduce its area and extent, and sandstorms have significantly decreased.
The first national parks will be officially opened this year
In 2015, China launched the pilot construction of the national park system.Over the past five years, useful explorations have been made in top-level design, management system, mechanism innovation, resource protection and safeguard measures, and initial results have been achieved.What’s in store for 2021?
Guan Zhiou said the establishment of a national park system is a major institutional innovation in the field of ecological civilization.
At present, the development of the system of protected natural areas has been accelerated, and the pilot projects of national parks have been basically completed. The first group of national parks will be formally set up this year.
