In March 2019, three countries in southeast Africa, mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, were hit by tropical cyclone idai. Severe floods, landslides and river breaches caused by storms and heavy rainfall caused heavy casualties and property losses.
Upon approval, the ministry of emergency management dispatched 65 members of the Chinese rescue team to the disaster area with 20 tons of rescue equipment and supplies for search and rescue, communications and medical treatment.The Chinese rescue team was the first international rescue team to reach the disaster area.
